My name is Maddie. I am an 12-year-old and have an autoimmune condition called Ulcerative Colitis (UC).
I often have what doctors call, flare ups, and my stomach hurts. I take a lot of medicine that makes me feel sick, but the doctors say it will help. I have to do blood work all the time to check my levels to let my doctors know when I'm in a flare-up. I don't like this very much, and I hope to one day be in remission and pain-free, but for now I try and make the best of it.
I decided one day to make and sell salad dressing that my Papa was making for us at home. I wanted to raise money to send me to a special camp, Camp Oasis, to meet other kids like me. My logo on my table has the UC & Crohn's purple ribbon and butterfly to bring awareness to these conditions.
Through my blog and social media, I share what other kids and I go through. A portion of the proceeds from my sales goes towards sponsoring other kids to attend Camp Oasis and towards my culinary school savings. I hope to become a pastry chef one day. For now, I am learning a lot about business, raising funds and awareness for UC and Crohn's disease, and playing volleyball!
